Can a snow shovel really help my back pain and sciatica?
Yup. The straight snow shovel often times requires you to bend over and lift snow off of your driveway. Lifting snow once or twice may not be too much of a load on your back pain or sciatica. Lifting snow repetitively, hundreds of lifts, is what can trigger your back pain and sciatica to get worse.
So here is some physical therapy advice.
Try using the plow shovel with an ergonomic handle. Don’t be a cheapskate. Get the reinforced handle. It will last longer than you. If fact, we will bring your sweet plow shovel to your funeral. No lifting is involved. Stand up straight and plow with your legs. Just clear snow down middle of your driveway and simply push the rest to the right and then the left.
And that heavy snow at the end of your drive way. Sometimes the plow shovel will not work for that heavy stuff. Try the aluminum reinforced shovels for the heavy stuff at the end of the driveway.
Be careful! A heavy dense shovel full of snow can weigh as much as 50 lbs. Please cut your shovels full in half.
I know a lot of this sounds like common sense. Sometimes we need a little reminder. I need a lot of reminders. Hope this helps? If you do go buy a plow shovel, then please let us know what you think. We would love to find the ultimate plow shovel for people with back pain and sciatica.
